Education vs. Education

Hello again people!! As you know, I had mentioned in my previous post that the present education system is destroying our creativity.. They judge the students by their memory power.. They ask the students to read about things that happened way in the past and write them as it was described in the book!! Now seriously, Newton didn’t find the laws of motion for people to byheart them, he just wanted that the world should know that “for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction” so that people might be aware of it!!

Now for another example, you give the descriptions, history and parts required for making the world’s first TV to few engineers and technicians and ask them to write whatever they read within a time limit, this is an example of what is taught in colleges, but what people will ask during a job interview “what is the essential thing for making an LCD TV??”

I’ve even seen some high schools, which encourage students to byheart and write a whole book and keep them away from all kinds of activities like sports, literature, arts and crafts etc..
They then encourage them to take up jobs in MNCs which leads to unemployment of many people due to less vacancies!!
Schools should encourage people to become creative in the fields the students are passionate about!!
The schools should develop the leadership skills in every student, I’ve seen some staff being partial to the students they know personally and ignore all the other students!!
They should help the students to realise what they want to become..
WAKE UP PEOPLE, all this has to CHANGE!!
We need an education system which encourages creativity!!
Students should not be punished for making mistakes!! Not Everyone has the same level of memory power!! This system is making us robots, because they select what we should learn, this is not freedom, we must have the freedom to select what we should learn!! This is a thing also to be noted by parents!! One can’t force anybody to learn what they cannot learn!! If one does, the Student might not be happy in doing that!!
And again I say, we are humans not robots!!

I remember posting this in my old blog a few months ago.. After that, the video song Anu Aunty – The engineering anthem, by Varun Agarwal came out… Then, another video song named Don’t Stay in School by David Brown came out… Both the songs went totally viral on the net, the reason, everyone knows what the value of one’s dream is.. We can’t just do a thing, because our neighbour did it..

I love these quotes made by Stephen Hawking:

However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.

Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.

I’m not saying school is bad. I am not saying education isn’t necessary. What I’m trying to imply here is that education is necessary, but no one should be forced to learn what one doesn’t want to learn. If you think this education system is great, then why do kids hate going to school?

The answer is simple. They are punished for not being able to answer a question properly or for getting low marks. Seriously?! Marks do not define us. Neither does talent. It is the attitude that we have towards any problem we face defines us who we are.

Life is a beautiful gift. It is a great teacher. If we give it a chance, we can learn things that this education system can not teach us. I’ve have only developed my mental side throughout my schooling, but that doesn’t get balanced until I develop the spiritual side in me.

Those things I’ve learned only due to anime. I still remember a quote of Mewtwo from the first Pokemon movie:

“I’ve realised that the circumstances of one’s birth are irrelevent, it is what you do with the gift of life that determines who YOU are”

I’ve seen people, who were multi-talented during their childhood. They always topped the class and they performed really well in college and their job. When they come across problems, all they say is, “It’s all fate!” The reason? They were not taught how to face their problems.

I feel, to give true education, no one should have any selfishness. True education must not only develop our mental skill and spirituality but also our problem facing skills and creativity..

This system has not produced many people who had a broad and open mind. Many have forgotten how to even enjoy the life, they just get busy doing nothing.

John Taylor Gatto once said:

“When you take the free will out of education, that turns it into schooling.”
I love how Ralph Waldo Emerson stated:
“We are students of words: we are shut up in schools, and colleges, and recitation -rooms, for ten or fifteen years, and come out at last with a bag of wind, a memory of words, and do not know a thing.”
We all are educated that Edison created the light bulb, but we weren’t taught how he became rich and how many before him had invented or tried to invent the light bulb.
Mahatma Gandhi once stated:

I find daily proof of the increasing and continuing wrong being done to the millions by our false de-Indianizing education. These graduates who are my valued associates themselves flounder when they have to give expression to their innermost thoughts. They are strangers in their own homes.

Parents only know that it will help the boy to earn money. And this satisfies them. If this situation lasts long, we might all become foreigners! What is worse even the Swaraj for which we are struggling may become foreign in character when we finally get it, with the result that the very burden under which we are crushed today may continue even after Swaraj. There is only one way to escape this danger. It is to change and overhaul our system of education. In the national education to be evolved.

It is my firm opinion that no culture has treasures so rich as ours has.

Seriously, one can’t judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree, Similarly not everyone has the same capability of memorizing things.

Teach, Education is necessary, but forcing them to remember ten thousand things and asking the students to write it down without missing a single letter, is same to destroying creativity.

I have friends who are great artists (which includes dancers, singers, musicians, actors, comedians, writers, poets, photographers, etc..) but they do not follow that only because they feel they are born to get their living only through working as an employee for any company, if this goes on, there would not be any entertainers, writers, or even a blogger like me.. The Internet is a great platform, where one can connect with a person who is living in another time zone, but I’ve seen people who curse it and state that it destroys creativity.. Well, I don’t have any right in telling you what to do. I just want to show you that there is a better way of living life, happily, there are different ways to earn money, if you like working as an employee, it’s good, if you want to follow your dream, it’s good. There are many different ways of living a life, but live the life that you want to, not because anyone asks you to.. And let me tell you a quote that Oscar Wilde made:

Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.”

Alert Einstein has said a lot about this education system:

Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.

It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.

The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.

If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

I would like to know your opinion on this system too.

Educate yourself and Live happily or get Educated and do what the world wants you to do.
The choice is yours…
